The Waterford Landing

Ladies and gentlemen of the internet, allow me to present The Waterford Landing. Not only old school friends but truly some of the best new music I’ve heard in years. Their new BULLET PARK EP (cover illo by me below) debuts this Saturday at our SHOOTING WAR West Coast Book Launch Party; in addition to scoring our animated trailer, they’ve composed an original “Shooting War Theme” and have several original tracks available for free download, including the blazing “Getbent” from the new EP. Play them LOUD and leave your body behind.

Newsweek on Shooting War

“They Move In”

When I first read those three words in Anthony’s script, I honestly had to go outside for a walk.

You see, in our graphic novel SHOOTING WAR, mounting tensions between American special forces and the unified jihadist group Sword of Mohammed slowly boil towards their inevitable final confrontation. We’d begun the story online at SMITHmag.net that summer, and I’d been receiving (quite happily) Anthony’s scripts in screenplay format; this means that actions are described as being in-motion as in cinema, rather than being broken up into panels, which are slices of time that represent the story’s movement on the page. I’ve got a background in film/screenwriting myself, and I really get off on having the creative latitude to structure the story beats and emotional moments as I see them.

Live on NPR’s Bryant Park Show

Anthony Lappé and I were invited to the NPR studios this morning to chat with Alison Stewart on The Bryant Show; thanks to internet magic you may already listen to us by clicking below:

Let’s Do Launch

Reports are coming in of SHOOTING WAR sighted in the wild at both bookstores and comic shops (apparently Amazon is already shipping copies as well). To support our Nov. 19th launch date, Anthony and I will be doing a handful of events next week; here’s all the places you can see/hear/meet us next week:

Back in the USSA

Our SHOOTING WAR launch in London was brilliant, gratifying not just to see our hardcover baby in UK bookshops but became clear-as-day just how the rest of the world would view it. Everyone Anthony and I spoke to, from our cracking editor Kelly Falconer of Weidenfeld & Nicolson to BBC Radio Scotland’s Clare English to the United Kingdom’s greatest champion of the form Paul Gravett to the Cartoon Museum’s Anita O’Brien to any number of the truly excellent new friends I’ve made in London have all said the same thing: they’ve simply never seen anything like SHOOTING WAR before.

I also shot loads of less blurry pics; click for le slideshow.

Thanks again to everyone who came out, helped us sell out the ICA event, showed us around town, bought endless rounds and generally showered us with love and enthusiasm and respect; I honestly can’t wait to set foot on your fair shores again.
